MixC Xi'an Grand Opening: Where Tradition Meets Contemporary Design

share

As we approach year's end and things begin to wind down, our team are still full speed ahead with our eighth retail opening of the year, MixC Xi’an in China.

Situated at the crossroads of two cultural urban axes, connecting the city's rich Tang dynasty history with contemporary landmarks, the 155,000 square-meter MixC is part of CR Land’s mixed-commercial development. As the master planner and retail design architect, 10 Design collaborated with Heatherwick Studio on Xi’an’s newest retail offering. Our design sets out a spatial framework that responds to the site’s cultural importance. The Xi'an Tree stands as a focal point, connecting curated spaces along an immersive, multisensory circulation path.

Design Principal, Retail, Chin Yong Ng shared our vision behind the project at a public design forum during the grand opening. Industry leaders, including Thomas Heatherwick, André Fu, Song Qun, Zheng Yingyi, and Yongchun Liu, joined the discussion on how urban architecture and retail developments can shape the branding image and raise cultural impact of cities.
