Elevating Retail Design: Alibaba's Qincheng MixC One Grand Opening

share

Great news from our Hong Kong Studio as Qincheng MixC One opens to the public. The multi-layered design for the new MixC is integrated into the urban fabric of Alibaba’s Central China Headquarter Complex in Wuhan, bridging the digital and physical worlds for a fresh take on in-person retail.

Reinforcing Alibaba Group’s identity as a technology-driven leader, the pixel motif — the foundational element of digital communication — extends to perforated façades and textured balustrades of the grand atrium. The atrium’s elevated walkways and transparent balustrades encourage organic movement and exploration, while modular display platforms that extend into the interior plaza act as dynamic media centres. Experiential by design, the mall will serve as a backdrop for a variety of events, exhibitions, and celebrations. Dutch artist, Florentijn Hofman's interactive installation, “Hoho”, currently takes centre stage, inviting visitors to interact both in person and online.

At its core, this project marks a critical shift in retail design: moving beyond convenience and transactions to prioritize immersive and memorable experiences.
